Low Vision Rehabilitation

Low Vision Rehabilitation at Northwest Eye Associates takes a caring and understanding approach to help patients cope with some of the devastating visual effects of eye diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and other ocular conditions which have resulted in decreased best corrected vision. Our goal is to help these patients regain some of their vision or make the most of decreased vision that that cannot be restored through surgery, glasses, contact lenses, or pharmaceuticals ‐ so they can do more of the things they enjoy for a full and rewarding life.

Each low vision patient receives an in‐depth evaluation tailored to their personal needs. During the examination, we work to determine which low vision aids and devices would work best toward achieving their individualized goals to improve their quality of life. Optical aids for low‐vision patients include magnifiers, microscopic lenses, electronic magnifiers and telescopes. We also utilize other non‐optical aids such as large‐print reading materials, writing guides, text‐to‐speech readers and computerized solutions as well as teaching coping skills to help assist with daily tasks.
